This is a hybrid of our Cylinder Head Preparation and Cylinder Head Selection articles. A late-May call from a dirt short track racer in upstate New York prompted it. He has two sets of cast iron cylinder heads, a “good” set and a “bad” set. The “good” heads are small block Chevy, prepared by the very capable Randy Brzezinski. With them, his car is a front-runner. But, like any racer, he wants a little more from his engine and called Total Flow Products to see what we could offer. Our free inspection program and cylinder head selection process are ideal for this type of call. |

There are two ways to determine whether or not cylinder heads require the additional sealing capability of wire O-rings. The first is simple – your application. If you are running high compression, forced induction (super charger or turbocharger), nitrous or high engine speeds, your heads may need O-rings. The second way is even simpler and it overrides the first - If your current application is working well without O-rings, don’t bother with them. Spend your money and our time on other parts or processes that will improve your engine’s performance. |
